How did we get to the Swivel Bar Stool?
How did the bar stool evlove into the swivel bar stool? There is no doubt that some form of bar stool has existed for many thousands of years. Beginning from the first time a cave man figured out he could sit on a tree stump to what has evolved into multitudes of variations available today. I suppose the stump thing is a bit of a stretch but there had to be some reason why man thought to develop the stool to it’s current day form.
The first resemblance of the bar stools we use today were probably counter stools used in public drinking places. They were noticeably higher than normal chairs in that they were used to sit up to the counter or bar (as we call it today). Who knows if they originally had 3 or 4 legs? In some cases they may have been mounted on the floor and only had one large post as the mount. Most of us who have been around for very long remember the western scenes with bar stools bellied up to the bar at the local tavern.
Today there are many uses for bar stools which go way beyond the scope of just commercial applications. This is not to say we shouldn’t mention the many commercial uses also. Restaurants, diners, pubs, taverns, ice cream parlors, juice bars, health club drink counters, pool parlors and bowling alleys come to mind, just to mention a few. The swivel bar stool is very popular in these locations. There are many uses in the home also. Bar stools are extremely common in kitchens today. Some homes have bars in them and/or recreation rooms which inevitably will have some sort of bar stool as part of the functional decor.
There is something very nice about having an elevated perspective while sitting atop a bar stool.
There are many styles of bar stools. There are so many variations of each type of stool that it’s mind boggling! There are stationary bar stools, swivel bar stools, wooden bar stools, metal bar stools. There are variations in color, materials to cover the seat, number of legs, various time period replicas, etc……..
My favorite is the swivel bar stool. There is nothing like being able to glide smoothly from side to side and catch all the action at your favorite establishment. They are particularly great for people watching. Yes the swivel bar stool is second to none.
Enough about the multitudes of bar stool types you can find. I’m sure you get the idea that the possibilities are endless. Come back to the swivel bar stool guide often if you are interested in the swivel bar stool or any of it’s cousins. Hopefully we can help you decide what you want in a bar stool.
